Vacations with your travel partner

If you’re planning an annual vacation with a travel partner, it's important to see another point of view. This means finding a balance between your individual interests and preferences, and what your partner has in mind - because you’re supposed to be happy taking that break together in the first place.

Notes to yourself …

Start with an open mind. What are you hoping to get out of it? What are your must-sees and must-dos? Once you know what each other is looking for, you can start to narrow down your options and find a destination that works for both of you.

Be willing to compromise. It's unlikely that you'll find a destination that perfectly meets both of your needs. So it's important to focus on a few key activities that you're both excited about and leave some time for relaxation and enjoying yourself.

Be prepared to change plans. Things don't always go according to plan when you're on vacation - it’s important to be flexible. After all, you're spending a lot of time together in a new environment.

Focus on the positive. Focus on the positive aspects of your vacation. Spend time with your partner, enjoy the new experiences you're having, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Don't try to do too much. It's tempting to pack as much as possible into your vacation, but this is a recipe for disaster. You'll end up feeling exhausted and stressed, and you won't have time to enjoy the experiences you're having.

Other things to keep in mind …

Activity level: Some couples have different activity levels. For example, if your partner wants to spend a lot of time at the beach, but you're more interested in exploring the city, you could agree to do both, with some careful scheduling of activities.

Interests: Couples may also have different interests. One partner may be interested in history and culture, while the other may be more interested in sports and adventure. It's important to find a meeting point that brings your interests together - you could choose a destination that has both historical sites and outdoor activities.

Travel style: Some couples have different travel styles. It's important to agree on a travel style that works for both of you before you start planning your trip. Plan ahead for where you will stay, places to see and explore, and discover common areas of interest around that location.

Budget: This point comes at the end, but it should be the first thing you should discuss when you’re planning a vacation. With timeshare, your stay at the resort comes free (with your membership) but there are other costs involved, such as food, local travel, and things like that. So it’s important to arrive at a budget that works for both of you, with a little buffer to take care of hidden costs that did not figure in your plans.

Planning a vacation with your partner can be a great way to strengthen your relationship and create lasting memories. And the links below are a good place to start.
